To really get away from it all, try a leisurely stroll through leafy Stanley Park, Blackpool's award-winning horticultural and wildlife treasure. Spot the cute, inquisitive squirrels, take in the showpiece Italian Gardens or hire a boat and float away lazy summer afternoons beside the swans on Stanley Park's boating lake.

Golfers will also find an extensive course at the park, there's crown green bowling, walks at the nearby nature reserve Marton Mere, and a host of family attractions at this popular yet peaceful retreat.

Close by is the resort's multipurpose sports centre in Stanley Park and the small but perfectly formed Model Village and Gardens. This marvel in miniature even comes complete with Blackpool trams!

The brash and bustling Golden Mile offers seaside favourites like hamburgers, chips, ice cream and candy floss. The Golden Mile is also the slot machine capital of Britain where giant leisure centres are interspersed with the latest video technology. Discos, cabaret spots and exhibitions are all to be found on Blackpool’s famous Promenade. Do the Golden Mile on foot to savour all the sights, sounds and smells, then see it again from a tram or one of the fleet of horse-drawn landaus!

The traditional trams trundle along twelve miles of Promenade. They're as much a tourist attraction as a vital public transport system carrying more than 120,000 people on a busy summer's day. So hop on for the ride of your life...there's so much to see.

If you prefer to walk, then marvel at the musical high-tide organ which joins the ever-growing range of giant sculptures and eye-catching artworks on New South Promenade, then continue along to the hustle and bustle of the Golden Mile right up to North Pier taking in each of the three piers along the way.

Blackpools 2007 Illuminations run for 66 nights from August 31st until November 4th.  The illuminations will be really 'glowing for it' this year with more than a million lights, 500 designs, 40 large tableaux and 500 flood and spotlights, with more than eight million visitors expected to come to view this year's ‘Northern Lights'.
